Tasca d'Almerita – Sallier de la Tour
The Sallier de La Tour project was brought to life in 2008, when Filiberto Sallier de La Tour, Prince of Camporeale, a man of the land and a passionate romantic like few others, asked his Tasca d'Almerita cousins to take over his estate near Palermo.
The basic idea of using an "international" grape may appear to run counter to the search for native roots. Yet we are convinced that certain varieties — in this case Syrah — know particularly well how to translate the "language" of a given area. The Syrah of DOC Monreale builds its own identity through painstaking work, but in viticulture there are no shortcuts, and only with perseverance is it possible, vintage after vintage, to achieve the high goals set.
The work of the Sallier de La Tour estate is today expressed through three different declinations of this variety; as part of a project to enhance the territory, alongside Syrah other indigenous varieties such as Grillo, Inzolia and Nero d'Avola are also grown.
