Duca Carlo Guarini
Accardo Guarini, Count of Valesio, cultivated his vineyard in 1114 on the Pìutri estate, which overlooks the Adriatic between Lecce and Brindisi. Since then, and by a happy fate, we, the Guarini family, continue to care for the vineyards, still rooted in the same wonderful Salento, respecting tradition without forgoing innovation.
Across the various fiefs granted since the 12th century, our family has always fostered the development of agriculture, and of viticulture and winemaking in particular. To this day the old cellars on our estate speak of this calling, so closely bound to the land and to the lives of twenty-five generations. We still work hard to preserve the typical vines and olive trees, and we support with great conviction every grape variety that Salento has to offer.
In an age when agriculture is vanishing, we feel a little like a last bastion of this territory's agricultural culture in all its complexity and diversity. We try to resist rampant globalisation, to protect the environment and consumers, and so all our grapes and wines, olives and oils, vegetables and grains are grown and certified strictly organic.
