Since 1921 · conventional
Adriana Antonutti's grandfather began farming a small estate in 1921, which has since grown into a 50-hectare, internationally sought-after winery. To this day the business remains a family affair, run with great heart and dedication by Adriana, her husband Lino and their children Riccardo, Nicola and Caterina.
The soils in this part of north-eastern Italy's Friuli are very heterogeneous. Fertile alluvial land, well suited to everyday wines, and the rare stony soils for the top growths often lie directly side by side.
When the land turns flat, hold on to the stones. To a mountain hiker this maxim sounds utterly meaningless; to a wine drinker it is essential to pleasure. For as long as anyone can remember you have heard us sing the praises of hillside, high-altitude and steep-slope sites that make the difference in wine. And then you arrive in the Grave del Friuli and everything is — flat. Well, altitude is relative. In equally flat Bordeaux, people already speak of "higher sites" from 15 metres up.
