Vigne Di Leo
On the south-western side of Staffolo, a small village in the hinterland of the Marche in the province of Ancona, the Azienda Vitivinicola Tre Castelli, alias "VigneDiLeo", has been producing Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, red wines from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes, and an extra-virgin olive oil of the highest quality for more than 30 years.
Strongly bound to the territory, the soil and family traditions, the company today has 36 hectares of vineyards in production out of a total of 100 of its own, produces 250,000 bottles per year, of which 30% are sold on the domestic market and the rest on foreign markets.
When you hear Verdicchio, you immediately think of the Marche, that wonderful coastal region in eastern central Italy, between Tuscany and the Adriatic coast, with kilometre-long sandy beaches, small bathing coves and picturesque marinas. It is in the fertile hinterland of the Marche that Verdicchio has its origin. A historic grape variety that produces excellent wines with fine, mineral notes. The brothers Emanuele and Gianfilippo Palpacelli devote themselves with great ambition to this old indigenous variety and bring it to new splendour.
Their grandfather had once begun growing wine, their father Leonardo steered the sideline business onto a professional footing, and with the takeover by the two brothers the winery has arrived in the 21st century. In the area around Staffolo, province of Ancona, the vineyards of VigneDiLeo lie at the foot of the Apennines in the heart of the classic growing area "Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi".
