Tasca d'Almerita – Tenuta Regaleali

In 1830 the Tasca brothers bought the Regaleali estate, a green island in the heart of Sicily in the Sclafani area. Since then the Tasca d'Almerita family has preserved this land generation after generation and passed on its fruits with passion. In 1959 Count Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita planted Perricone and Nero d'Avola vines in the "alberello" training system on the San Lucio hill, investing in a future that few Sicilians could imagine at the time. In doing so he laid the foundation for the first single-vineyard wine in Sicily: the "Riserva del Conte" — later called by all "Rosso del Conte" — which came to market with the 1970 vintage. A red wine of remarkable longevity that remains an icon of the estate to this day. In the early 1980s "Nozze d'Oro" came to market, a white wine from indigenous grapes (Inzolia and "Sauvignon Tasca") capable of long bottle ageing. Towards the end of that decade his son Lucio Tasca d'Almerita had the happy inspiration to bring the most internationally popular grape varieties to Sicily, in order to measure himself against the greatest wineries in the world.
