Scarpa
The historic Scarpa estate in northern Italy, in the Piedmont region, is devoted to culture and terroir, with sustainable practices in the vineyards and extended bottle ageing in the cellar. Each wine is released long after others of the same vintage. Since the early 1900s Scarpa's portfolio has revolved around the regal grapes of our area: Barbera of the Monferrato and the nobleman of the Langhe, the Nebbiolo grape with its Barolo and Barbaresco wines.
Among our other first-class indigenous varietal wines are Freisa, Ruché, Brachetto, Dolcetto and more. Our extensive library collection in our cellar in Nizza Monferrato is unique in the region, with bottles available dating back to 1962.
Our two cru Barbera wines, La Bogliona Barbera d'Asti DOCG and I Bricchi Barbera d'Asti DOCG, follow winemaking and ageing methods similar to those required for Barolo and Barbaresco. Even our younger Casa Scarpa Barbera d'Asti DOCG benefits from longer ageing. Scarpa's heritage allows us to produce, age and bottle our Barolo and Barbaresco wines in Nizza Monferrato. Italy's DOCG regulations stipulate that production outside the zone is only permitted if the producer made the wines before 1966. Our Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo are grown on the estate, in vineyards in the Barolo communes of La Morra and Verduno. Our Nebbiolo grapes for Barbaresco are grown in estate-owned vineyards in Neive. After harvest the grapes are transported to our cellar in Nizza Monferrato for production.
