Kellerei Girlan
Since 1923 · conventional
The Girlan cooperative winery was founded in 1923 in a historic farmhouse dating from the 16th century. Behind the ancient walls and along the sprawling cellar passages lie modern cellar technology and optimal storage conditions. As early as 2009 to 2011 the Girlan winery underwent a comprehensive modernisation, which has recently been continued. Today around 200 grower families cultivate some 215 hectares at altitudes of 450 to 550 metres above sea level.
Under the leadership of Oscar Lorandi and with the young cellarmaster Gerhard Kofler, the winery has developed into one of South Tyrol's leading estates. The goal is to express the terroir — that is, the climate, soil conditions, tradition and the way of life of the region — and to make it recognisable in each of the wines. The estate wines form the foundation with the easy-drinking 448 cuvées and the traditional single-varietal wines. The vineyard wines are made from selected grapes from the best vineyards. At the summit are the selection wines, which come from the finest sites in the Überetsch and the Unterland. All the wines reveal the full potential of this region.
