Fattoria la Rivolta
80 kilometres north-east of Naples lies the small town of Torrecuso. Here in the province of Benevento, Paolo Cotroneo has been running the up-and-coming Fattoria La Rivolta estate for over 20 years. It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by his uncle Giovanni Cotroneo, a banker from Benevento, and his wife Teresa.
At first Paolo did without wines of his own and sold the grapes to a winery. In 1997 he converted the vineyards to organic cultivation and thus laid the foundation for today's Fattoria La Rivolta. He had the massive 18th-century stone house magnificently renovated, and the cellar likewise. Equipped with modern technology, he has been pressing his own wines here with success since the year 2000, wines that are sold as far away as overseas.
Fattoria La Rivolta comprises just under 30 hectares of vines that grow on limestone and clay soils in the hilly landscape of Campania. Above all it is autochthonous, native varieties such as Bacca Bianca, Falanghina, Coda di Volpe and Fiano (all white) as well as Aglianico and Piedirosso (red) that Paolo turns into typical southern Italian wines. The Falanghina Taburno is made 100 percent from the white Falanghina grape that is typical of Campania.
